So this week my pupils were working on the school computers and one of them had a problem and it restarted by itself, so I asked the pupil who was using it what had happened and he said :"Oh, une Windowserie". How cute is that? Very, according to my standards.

But who can resist them when they're all bleary-eyed and thirsty from the boat and the bus? And it's actually quite eery to see the streets of London almost devoid of inhabitants except for the few (insomniacs? Shopaholics? Just plain lonely?) who come in for a quick breakfast of coffee and blueberry muffins. It's nice to be up and about while the city's still asleep.

Cool afternoon yesterday with my ex-pupils, good thing they're EX pupils in fact, because I really don't see mysel telling them to be quiet now... Okay, so how bad was my morning? I really don't know what is at stake when pupils tell me first thing in the morning that "they don't give a fuck about English" (if only they could say it that well in English). What is the appropriate answer to that one? Apparently none of those I could provide at 8:30 were relevant to the pupil who stubbornly maintained that "since she didn't care nor understood, and since the exam she was gonna take would have no influence whatsoever on whether she will get her diploma, then why on Earth shouldn't she send text messages during class?". Then there is the matter of those students who think that school is like TV and they can just choose the programs they like, thus causing 3/4 of a class ditching French and History, the two subjects they are being tested on for the Baccalauréat at the end of the year. So here I am, sitting at my desk, preparing stuff that the pupils will skim through and reject as "impossible to understand", while their parents happily call us "good for nothing" since we can't even get some sense into their kids' heads. Who said this sounds like bitter ranting from an apoplectic 60-year-old? Well it's kinda true, but maybe that's how this morning has made me feel. I still love my job, just some mornings I understand why not so many people want to do it^^

After the TOTALLY AWESOME Sonic Youth concert, chillin' out with Michel at the Greed Recordings "listening station", waiting for people to buy a Conflakes Heroes album, but it seems like people definitely prefer Moonman. Ah, but it's okay, lots of people get a kick out of not being appreciated in their own time. So yersterday was "Mouen fort la zic", in Mouen, we played a stupid, over-rushed over-heated little show but all in all the evening was pretty nice and we did get to see an excellent concert by Stuck In the Sound, the only hitch was today when I had to get at 7:30 to go get my ass kicked at tennis in the blaring heat of a Norman beach village...how I love to suffer!!

So yesterday we were playing at the Cargo, strange atmosphere, maybe beacuse I spent half the time waiting for people who didn't show up and dreading events that didn't happen. Anyway. I enjoyed playing the set, a lot, I didn't enjoy discussing it afterwards that much nor did I relish sleeping two short hours to face a long day of classes, but hey, being a rockstar is hard work, isn't it? And this guy was given to me by Thomthom; I never thought I'd have my very own Kurt Cobin one day. Well he was sitting right by my mic stand throughout the show and it gave me a lot of punkish-"Idon'tgiveafuck" energy. Is that totally weird? Photos on Flickr!

I've just finished Gloomcookie, It's pretty cool, although I must say I'll probably have to read it again to really digest it, the atmosphere is kinda weird, and the story totally unpredictable. I didn't like it as much as Courtney Crumrin though (also by TED NAIFEH).

Tonight, BBC. Really good show, very energetic and liberating. What's also very cool is that the musicians are all extremely nice open talkative people, and the prize for having gone to that concert after such a loooooong day (including donating my blood, what a woozy experience^^) is that the girl singer has a solo project and her songs are as lovely as she is.
