Wasting my time?

Okay, so how bad was my morning? I really don't know what is at stake when pupils tell me first thing in the morning that "they don't give a fuck about English" (if only they could say it that well in English). What is the appropriate answer to that one? Apparently none of those I could provide at 8:30 were relevant to the pupil who stubbornly maintained that "since she didn't care nor understood, and since the exam she was gonna take would have no influence whatsoever on whether she will get her diploma, then why on Earth shouldn't she send text messages during class?". Then there is the matter of those students who think that school is like TV and they can just choose the programs they like, thus causing 3/4 of a class ditching French and History, the two subjects they are being tested on for the Baccalauréat at the end of the year. So here I am, sitting at my desk, preparing stuff that the pupils will skim through and reject as "impossible to understand", while their parents happily call us "good for nothing" since we can't even get some sense into their kids' heads. Who said this sounds like bitter ranting from an apoplectic 60-year-old? Well it's kinda true, but maybe that's how this morning has made me feel. I still love my job, just some mornings I understand why not so many people want to do it^^
